The Workshop welcomes volunteers to help in its activities, including productions, classes, administration and special events.
The Workshop has a very strong atmosphere of inclusion, teamwork, respect and responsibility. This is reflected in the way staff, members and volunteers relate to one another, and the way that work is completed.
The goal of volunteering at the Workshop is to supplement the work of the staff, to increase the benefits available to members, and to provide volunteers with a unique professional experience working in theatre and the arts community. The Workshop provides volunteers with a place to prove their skills, with the support of experienced staff, and the Workshop’s resources (venue, productions, members, etc.) In return, volunteers receive professional experience working in a theatre, along with promotional materials highlighting work completed, recommendations from Workshop staff, and reimbursement for travel costs where necessary.
The Workshop makes every effort to ensure a safe and healthy environment for its staff, members and volunteers. Policies regarding Safeguarding are available to inform all users on the best practice to ensure that it remains a positive place to be. All staff, members and volunteers are aware of these policies, and have access to information if they need to take any action relating to Safeguarding, in particular Child Protection.
All Workshop staff are certified DBS checked. Volunteers, particularly those who will be working directly with members, must be subject to DBS checking. Some volunteers (stage design, etc.) will not be working directly with members. Security concerns for each position will be addressed accordingly.
Volunteers work on a voluntary basis. There is no formal contract or agreement between individuals and the Workshop. Volunteers will set their schedule by consulting with staff in the area in which they want to work. Work is undertaken for the benefit it will give to both parties, and can be ended at any time.
This Volunteering Policy has been reviewed and agreed by the Trustees of the Actors’ Workshop Youth Theatre Company.
